Seidio Data Power Package

Gadgeteer Hands On Review by Judie Hughes

December 09, 2002

Product Requirements:
Device:
Audiovox Maestro/Toshiba e550/e570, Casio E125/BE300, Casio E200, Handspring Visor Prism/Pro/Platinum Handspring Treo 180/270, HP Jornada 520/540/560, IPAQ 3100/3600/3700/3800,  Palm M130/M500/M505/M515/i705, Sony CLIÉ S300/N600/N700, Sony CLIÉ T415/T615/NR70/NR70V, and the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition

If you have been finding yourself out of the office more than you are in, then you have probably been searching for the end-all, be-all of charging and connecting options. You need to be able to charge at any given time - whether it be from a wall socket, airplane or vehicle power port, or from your laptop's USB port. You want to be able to sync with your laptop on the run - without a bulky cradle.

As you can imagine, there aren't too many products that can offer this type of versatility, and do everything I just mentioned. I do know of one, however: the Data Power Package, by Seidio.

The Data Power Package I received showed up in a nylon case with a dual set of zippers for upper and lower levels. In all honesty, the first thing I thought when I got mine was, "Cool make-up case!"  ;0)
Opening the top zipper reveals a coiled up Seidio 2-in-1 Charger. For those of you that missed my review on this clever tool - it is a charger that will work both in a car and in a wall plug.

The beauty of this charger is that it has an end made to accept the adapter for any of the PDAs listed above...just contact Seidio for additional adapter's prices.

The bottom of the case unzips to reveal all of the components of the Seidio Emergency Charger Kit. Here are adapters to allow you to sync and charge via USB port, charge from an airplane's power port, and even from a 9-volt battery!

With this kit, you are truly ready for any scenario!

It looks like someone at Seidio must have agreed that the case I received looked like a makeup bag. It appears they have replaced it with a much cooler model. ;0)

I received the Data Power Package that included the adapter for the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition. This kit will come in handy, because I will be able to not only use the it with my PE, but (with the correct adapters) I can also use it with my Tungsten | T and the iPAQ 5455 I am about to receive.

Imagine switching or upgrading your PDAs - even switching PDA operating systems - and still being able to use this same accessories with your new PDA. I think they are on to something here!

I bought the Data Power Package about 5 weeks ago for my Clie NR70/V. Since I received the package, the connection between the emergency power charger and the universal connector for the Clie has been tentative at best. Recently, it stopped charging by Clie despite both telltale lights indicating a current from the outlet to the emergency power charger. I think that the "universal connector" is poorly made and have requested that Seidio replace my order with the G2 (generation 2) Data Power Package - reviewed here.

I bought the Seidio Data Package last August. It's very useful to me on trips -- I can carry just the one package and charge my m515 lots of different ways. Frequently, in not-so-modern motel/hotel accomodations (where there are no readily available wall sockets!) being able to recharge from a 9v battery is most useful.

Recently I have been having trouble with the wall socket to m515 charging connection. I sent a message to Seido Support using thier website, received a same-day reply, did some debugging with them, and they're going to replace my USB cable, at least for a start. They said they'd replace whatever I wasn't happy with, but thought the cable was the problem. That was my diagnosis too, so we're going to try that. They sent me an RMA number on a one day turnaround -- not bad!

I'm not too happy with the case (Judie liked it!). It's got that funky curve to it, so it doesn't max-pack in my suitcase. Still, it's stylish, I guess. I'd prefer rectangular.

All in all: Good product, good people!:D

Hmm, this would be a good kit to put the boxwave minisync into... you'd just have to take the "USB is power" focus instead :-)
